JVC adds lamp-based DLA-NP5 to home cinema projector range

Following the arrival of JVC's new trio of 8K e-Shift/native 4K projectors, the Japanese manufacturer has added an additional model, without the 8K scaling talents or laser light source, with a price tag of £7,500.

Available in either black or white finish (DLA-NP5B and DLA-NP5W), the new 4K beamer utilises a 265W lamp to deliver a claimed 1,900 Lumens brightness. Native contrast is rated 40,000:1, jumping to 400,000:1 via the projector's Intelligent Aperture function.

Despite these figures being considerably down on those of the flagship NZ9, we're told the projector's 'synergy of high dynamic range and high brightness delivers the exceptional images JVC is known for.'

The absence of 8K e-Shift (which scales sources to a resolution of 8,192 x 4,320), and JVC's BLU-Escent laser light source, on this 'entry-level' model account for the price difference between
it and the step-up £11,500 NZ7. However, beyond these
feature downgrades, the two beamers remain similarly specified.

Like the NZ7, the NP5 features a 65mm all-glass lens with motorised control over its focus and 2x optical zoom. Motorised lens shift is again (+/-) 80 per cent vertical and (+/-) 34 per cent horizontal.

Connections on the NP5 are identical to the
three NZ models. The projector features a pair
of 48Gbps HDMI 2.1 inputs supporting 4K/120 sources – a feature described by JVC as 'becoming more valuable every day' – plus 12V trigger and
3D 'Synchro' outputs, and Ethernet and RS232 control ports.

The NP5 also features the same image adjustments and features, including HDR10 and HDR10+ playback, JVC's Clear Motion Drive anti-blur technology, and Frame Adapt HDR tone-mapping. Auto calibration (using a third-party sensor and free JVC software download) is possible, and the PJ allows for up to 10 installation settings to be saved.

The NP5 is available now through official JVC dealers.
