Wharfedale's EVO4 speaker series is ready for home cinema heroics

Wharfedale has announced a new speaker range that includes both dedicated centre and on-wall surround models suited to home cinema setups.

The EVO4 Series, available in shops this month, has been engineered at the same time as the brand's incoming flagship Elysian speakers, and the brand says this has allowed it to share technologies between the two.

At launch the range consists of six models – two standmount speakers (the EVO4.1 and EVO 4.2), two floorstanders (EVO 4.3 and EVO 4.4) and the EVO4.C centre and EVO4.S surround. Wharfedale says a second, smaller centre channel model will follow.

Delivering high-frequencies on all models is Wharfedale's Air Motion Transducer (AMT) unit developed for the Elysian – a pleated, lightweight diaphragm design promising 'extremely low distortion and wonderful musical detail.'

Fabric dome midrange drivers are then featured on the three-way models (all bar the entry-level EVO4.1), with Kevlar bass drivers (either 5in or 6in depending on speaker) handling the low-end.

Finish options are black, white or walnut and all speakers feature hand-finished wood veneers. A multi-layer construction, claims Wharfedale, helps reduce unwanted internal sound leakage, maintaining the purity of driver output.

Says the Brit speaker brand: 'There is no attempt to cheat the laws of physics with diminutive cabinets and modest driver arrays; these are serious speakers that play music with authentic power and poise.'

EVO4.2: £599 per pair
