Total Recall prepped for 4K Blu-ray release this November

Total Recall, Paul Verhoeven's celebrated 1990 sci-fi starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, is being released on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray on November 23 by Studiocanal.

The film has been restored at 4K through a scan of its original 35mm negative, under the supervision of Verhoeven, and given a Dolby Vision HDR pass. Specialist outfit Hiventy has overseen colour-grading – 'the restoration crew paid particularly high attention to preserve special effect continuity,' says Studiocanal.

Adds Verhoeven of Total Recall's 4K rebirth: 'I just saw the 4K presentation of my movie and it’s absolutely wonderful what Studiocanal and the restoration team have done. There is so much detail you could say it is three-dimensional.'

Studiocanal has two 4K releases lined up – one a £40 Steelbook edition, the other a £70 Collector's Edition (pictured top).

The former showcases new artwork by British illustrator Kevin Lyle (pictured below). Both pack extra features including the new Total Excess: How Carolco Changed Hollywood documentary; featurettes focusing on the film's score, special effects and development; and a commentary track by Verhoeven and Schwarzenegger.

The Collector's Edition release will also ship with a double-CD release of Jerry Goldsmith's original soundtrack, two-sided poster with Kyle's new artwork, art cards and 48-page booklet.
