Denon preps new IMAX Enhanced AV receiver

Denon has announced the newest addition to its X-Series AV receiver range, the £1,000 AVR-X3600H). A 9.2-channel design with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X decoding, this mid-range powerhouse also supports IMAX Enhanced and incorporates eARC and Auto Low-Latency Mode features.

Described by the AV stalwart as offering 'a truly immersive, multidimensional sound experience for today’s home theatre aficionados,' the receiver comes loaded with the expected connectivity and streaming tricks, and claims 9 x 180W of grunt via its discrete amplifier stage. Processing for 11.2-channel setups (with an additional stereo amplifier) is provided. Room EQ comes via Denon's traditional Audyssey partner in the shape of Audyssey MultEQ XT32.

The AVR-X3600H's eight HDMI inputs and trio of HDMI outputs all handle 4K HDR video (including Dolby Vision) at 60Hz. New features for 2019 are HDCP 2.3 copy protection support, and ALLM – allowing users to enjoy automatic game mode implementation with compatible hardware. eARC, meanwhile, handles lossless object-based audio from TV apps.

While primarily intended for Atmos-ready cinema systems, Denon says the receiver's Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization technology introduces 'the excitement of three-dimensional audio' when the speaker configuration lacks height channels (5.1) or even surround speakers (2.1).

On the music side, the AVR-X3600H (which packs an AKM 32-bit DAC) is compatible with hi-res files to 24-bit/192kHz (ALAC, FLAC and WAV) and 2.8/5.6MHz DSD from USB or over a network. Denon's HEOS multiroom functionality is also integrated, enabling your home cinema to become a zone in a multiroom setup, streaming music from platforms including Spotify, Tidal, Deezer and Amazon Music.

Other goodies include a phono input for vinyl junkies; iOS/Android remote apps for smart device control; Amazon Alexa/Google Assistant/Apple Siri functionality; Control4 home automation compatibility, and deeper EQ potential with the £20 Audyssey MultEQ editor app.

The AVR-X3600H will be available from Denon dealers in August 2019.
