Panasonic launches second Ultra HD Blu-ray player

DMP-UB700 model to be more affordable sibling to DMP-UB900

Panasonic has announced a new DMP-UB700 Ultra HD Blu-ray player that will slot into to its lineup alongside the existing DMP-UB900, giving 4K home cinema fans a greater choice when it comes to a new deck.

Announced today at the IFA technology expo in Berlin, the UB700 shares many features of its higher-end stablemate, including the brand's 4K High-Precision Chroma processor and 4K content streaming support.

The 4K HDR deck is certified Ultra HD Premium by the UHD Alliance, offers dual HDMI outputs for split A/V output and hi-res audio support including DSD (5.6 MHz/2.8 MHz) and ALAC. Panasonic's Digital Tube Sound processing is again offered to emulate the sound characteristics of retro tube amplifiers, if that's your bag. Support for Ultra HD home movie and still image playback is also on the spec list.

The DMP-UB700 will be available from late October/November, priced at £400.
