ViewSonic X-series projectors bring short-throw 4K entertainment

ViewSonic has launched a new X-series of projectors in the shape of the X10-4K and X1000-4K, with both models promising Ultra HD home entertainment and slick usability.

However, rather than adding to its PX range of traditional lamp-based home cinema projectors, the new models use LED light sources and integrate short-throw lenses for simplified installation.

The X10-4K (pictured above) is designed to be portable. It weighs only 2kg and comes with a leather carry handle and matching connections cover. Brightness from its LED illumination is rated at 2,400 Lumens. ViewSonic says it crafts its images from 80cm from a wall/screen, although throw ratio is unspecified.

The larger X1000-4K is an ultra-short-throw model that the brand says delivers pictures (up to 100in) from 'inches away' from a screen. LED brightness is here claimed to be 2,200 Lumens.

Both X-series models boast a 'lamp-life' of around 30,000 hours, and feature onboard speakers from audio brand Harmon Kardon – described as a soundbar in the case of the X1000-4K.

Inputs include HDMI 2.0/HDCP 2.2, USB, Ethernet and audio in/out. 4K playback includes HDR10.

Both models utilise 4K DLP chips with XPR technology, and offer REC.709 colour handling.

Smart features shared across both the X10-4K and X1000-4K are built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity and Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice control. An integrated 'smart TV interface' provides streaming service support including Netflix and YouTube, with further apps available from Android Aptiode.

'The ViewSonic X-series sets the new gold standard in home cinema projection. In addition to amazing 4K image reproduction, we’ve packed the X10-4K and X1000-4K projectors with the latest smart technologies,' says Tony White, AV Director at ViewSonic Europe.

The X10-4K will be available from April priced around £1,300, while the X1000-4K (below) should arrive late Summer with a £1,700 ticket.
