Send your home cinema into the Spider-Verse

Hot on the heels of snagging the Oscar for Best Animated Feature at the 91st Academy Awards over the weekend, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and Sony Pictures Animation has revealed that Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will make its UK home entertainment debut this Spring. The studio will unleash the visually dazzling superhero ‘toon onto Digital on April 6, followed by 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD on April 22.

Produced by The Lego Movie’s Phil Lord and Chris Miller, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse tells the story of Brooklyn teenager Miles Morales, who ends up taking the mantle of Spider-Man after Peter Parker dies saving the city – only to learn that he's not alone and there’s an entire multiverse of other 'Spider-' heroes in existence.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse promises over 90 minutes of bonus content, including an original animated short – Spider-Ham: Caught in a Ham – featuring breakout star Peter Porker in a brand new adventure. Other goodies include a look at the film’s diverse cast of characters; an exploration of the stunning visual style and animation techniques; a tribute to Spider-Man creators Stan Lee and Steve Ditko; a chance for you to find all of the film’s myriad comic book cameos and Easter Eggs with the Spider-Verse Super-Fan Easter Egg Challenge; character breakdowns; and an Alternate Universe Mode viewing experience that allows viewers to ‘discover alternate scenes, plotlines, characters and more with the filmmakers as their guide’.

In terms of disc specifications, the only thing to be revealed so far is that Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’s 4K Ultra HD release will present the film ‘with High Dynamic Range and Dolby Atmos sound’. Unfortunately, this being a Sony Pictures release, you can guarantee the ‘regular’ Full HD Blu-ray will be limited to a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 mix.
