REL aims for 'crushing low bass' with new 212/SX premium subwoofer
Priced at a reassuringly expensive £4,200, the REL 212/SX weighs in at 58kg and uses two 12in drivers and two further 12in passive radiators to claim a low-end reach of 18Hz (-6dB). Power is provided by a 1,000W NextGen5 amplifier.
REL says refinements over the previous 212/SE design include new drivers (with a longer stroke) and updates to its PerfectFilter signal processing.
'The result is a major step forward in the 212 design, an already brilliant performer now playing louder with greater ease whilst better preserving the tiniest details of air and space with even greater precision.'
As expected from the brand, the 212/SX offers simultaneous low-level and high-level connectivity. Wireless hookup is also a possibility via REL's new (optional) 5.8Ghz Airship system, which promises a 'high resolution, audiophile-grade' connection.
