IMAX unleashes special Avengers: Infinity War comparison trailer

See 'up to 26 per cent more' movie, says the largescreen cinema pioneer of Marvel's latest film

Marvel Studios and IMAX are getting ready to make history next month when Avengers: Infinity War is released into cinemas around the world.

The latest instalment in the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe is the first Hollywood film shot entirely using IMAX cameras, with directors Joe and Anthony Russo once again making use of the Alexa IMAX 65mm camera, which they previously used to shot the airport battle in 2016's Captain America: Civil War.

Avengers: Infinity War will be presented in the expanded 1.9:1 aspect ratio in IMAX cinemas, and the largescreen pioneer has released a new side-by-side comparison trailer to let fans see just how much of the movie they'll be missing if they don't watch it on an IMAX screen...

IMAX claims that the vertically-expanded image will show up to 26 per cent more of the image than standard cinemas – although even IMAX's own comparison trailer shows that this isn't as cut and dried as it might appear. One of the shots in the trailer (Thanos squeezing Thor's head, around the 1:24 mark) is cropped closer in the IMAX version, with the 'standard' presentation providing more picture information on both sides of the screen.

Avengers: Infinity War hits IMAX cinemas (and regular ones, too) on April 26.
