Devialet launches Dione, a high-end Dolby Atmos soundbar

French marque Devialet, known for its premium hi-fi hardware (and recent collaboration with Huawei on desktop speakers), has unveiled a Dolby Atmos soundbar, called Dione.

Priced £1,990, the soundbar is a single-box design with a 5.1.2 channel configuration. Devialet suggests it offers 'a radical size-to-performance ratio and zero compromise on sound quality and immersion.'

Dione is the first soundbar from the company, but some of its onboard technology is familiar. The power stage, which provides a claimed total grunt of 950W to the bar's 17 drivers, uses Devialet's in-house ADH technology, a hybrid system combining Class A and Class D circuits.

Meanwhile, Speaker Active Matching (SAM) DSP technology aims to improve bass extension and limit distortion regardless of volume/input.

Arranged within the Dione's 1.2m-wide chassis are nine full-range drivers and eight woofers. Central, and distinct, is Devialet's Orb unit, which is said to deliver optimum sound performance regardless of whether the bar is installed flat on an AV unit or wall-mounted vertically.

Room calibration, plus four EQ modes (Movie, Music, Voice plus 'Spatial' for upmixing content to 5.1.2), can be accessed via Devialet's app.

Physical connections are HDMI (v2.1) and optical, with the soundbar also supporting Apple Airplay, Spotify Connect, UPNP media streaming and Bluetooth 5.0.

Says Devialet CEO, Franck Lebouchard: 'We have pursued our vision of redefining the place sound holds in people’s lives through our unique amplifiers, Phantom speakers, and true wireless earbuds. Now, Devialet Dione, our first soundbar, brings us even closer to our goal.'
