FLCL: Volume 2 review

Anton van Beek's picture

This second dose of FLCL continues to mine the wonderful vein of chaotic brilliance that made the first volume such a hit in the HCC offices. This time out there’s sex, death, cats, sleepovers, baseball, a school play, a deadly satellite and a man with very large eyebrows. Absolute animated genius.

The 4:3 image is colourful and clearly delineated, the stereo audio (Japanese and English) is lively and there are some good extras (art gallery, trailers, director’s commentary). The only problem is the price: a whopping £16 for two 22-min episodes! Surely it would have made much more sense to just release all three volumes as a more reasonably-priced box set?
