Virgin Media prepares for new football season with Season Ticket deal

Adds Sky Sports 3, 4, and F1 HD - Sky Sports 5 to follow at launch

Cable TV honcho Virgin Media is prepping for the new football season by launching an exclusive Season Ticket that will give sports fans 10 month's access to all of Sky's sports channels for a one-off up-front fee of £150.

The offer is available to new and existing customers until the end of August, with Virgin Media saying that, when used in conjunction with its Big Kahuna quad-play bundle, households can save over £400 in a year 'compared to the closest comparable offering from Sky.'

The Season Ticket will give Virgin Media subscribers access to three new channels launched on the cable platform yesterday – Sky Sports 3, Sky Sports 4 and F1 HD. Virgin Media has also confirmed that Sky Sports 5, a new channel devoted to European football, will be available when it launches on August 12.

The new channels (all available in HD) will join Sky Sports 1 HD & 2 HD, plus BT Sport, ESPN, British Eurosport, Premier Sport, BoxNation and Racing TV. 'Only Virgin Media offers every major live sports channel in one place from a single provider,' says the cable corp.

Virgin Media has also pledged to soon give its customers access to Sky Sports channels on mobile devices via a dedicated app, initially on iOS devices, as well as online, with Android support following.

Says Dana Strong, Virgin Media's Chief Operating Officer: 'Virgin Media is now the home of all the major live sports in the UK in HD or on the go.  This is the first time all the Sky and BT Sport channels will be available in one place, backed by superfast broadband, for a single great value price.'
