Sony's new 2013 Full HD LED TVs are finally available for pre-order in preparation for their arrival at the end of April. Interestingly, the pricing sees the top-flight KDL-55W905A, a 55in W9 series model, tackle the £2,500 price point so beloved of rivals Samsung, Philips and Panasonic. Last year, the brand's most expensive screen, the KDL-55HX83, was launched at a mere £1,800. 

The other W9 models - the KDL-46W905A and KDL-40W905A - will retail for £1,800 and £1,400 repsectively. The brand's forthcoming Ultra HD TVs (at 55in and 65in) are scheduled to arrive later in the Summer.

Sony claims the the W9 screens offer consumers the brand's 'unique combination of technology and content services, delivering life-like picture quality and immersive audio.' Backing up these claims is some new technology, most notably  TRILUMINOS Display LED backlighting wizardry to improve colour reproduction and, apparently, create a greater sense of depth to the Full HD pictures.

The W9 TVs also include a long duct speaker cabinet design, where a 1.2m speaker duct is folded into a compact unit hidden behind the TV screen. 'Though the speakers are hidden, the newly-designed speaker cabinet reproduces rich bass and lower midrange sounds, adding extra punch and producing the same bass extension as a much bigger speaker,' we're told.

The full W series also includes the lesser-specified W8 and W6 ranges. The W8 comes in three sizes - 55in, 47in and 42in - and offers Passive 3D rather than the Active 3D found on the W9s (which explains the variation in screen size). The W6 range offers 42in and 32in models. All W-series models are Wi-Fi enabled with access to the Sony Entertainment Network, and employ Sony's X-Reality PRO processing suite and Motionflow XR gubbins to to improve the clairty of fast-moving material. 

Pricing for the W8 models begins at £1,000 for the 42incher. The W6 range begins at £550 for the dinky model.
