Virgin Media wants your shorts!

Last call goes out to aspiring filmmakers for Virgin Media Shorts competition entries

Are you an undiscovered film-making talent? If so, Virgin Media want you! Now in its fifth year, Virgin Media Shorts has become the biggest short film making competition in the UK, giving both established and emerging British film makers a high profile platform to showcase their work.

The event has attracted huge industry support, with Kevin Spacey, Thandie Newton and John Hurt all offering their services as judges. Past winners have gone on to have work featured at Cannes, and have been nominated for BAFTAS. 2011’s winner Jason Wingard (pictured above) is now working on projects at the BBC.

Entry details can be found at virginmediashorts.co.uk. The top prize is £30,000 to fund a project in association with the British Film Institute. The closing date for entries is July 12, midday.

In addition, the top 12 shortlisted entries, plus a People’s Choice film, will be transferred to 35mm and shown nationwide across the Picturehouse network and independent cinemas for a year. A selection of this year’s entries can be viewed at www.virginmediashorts.co.uk.
