Onkyo has unveiled the first three models in its 2013 AVR range, claiming its new TX-NR727, TX-NR626 and TX-NR525 models push 'standards for performance and value to unprecedented heights in the home cinema arena.'

The most powerful new model, the THX Select2 Plus-certified TX-NR727, is a 7.2 channel design, equipped with Three-Stage Inverted Darlington Circuitry. Dolby Pro Logic IIz and Audyssey DSX processing are onboard, plus a 'Whole House Mode' for  three zone multi-room audio.

The TX-NR727's built-in Wi-Fi enables lossless audio streaming from iPhone and Android-based devices, as well as app-controllable FLAC, Apple Lossless, Dolby TrueHD, LPCM, and DSD hi-res streaming from NAS devices and PCs. Bluetooth technology is also built-in. Incorporated music streaming services include Spotify, TuneIn Radio and Last.fm.

Connections include eight HDMI inputs (with MHL support for 1080p video from smartphones and tablets), and two HDMI outputs. Other key features include Ultra HD video passthrough and upscaling, plus InstaPrevuew. Control via remote app is naturally offered. 

The TX-NR727 will be available in May, priced around £800.

The more budget-focused TX-NR525 is a 5.2-channel AVR which requires optional adapters for Bluetooth streaming and wireless LAN. This £400 AVR has six HDMI inputs and will be available from April. It offers 4K passthrough, but not upscaling. The middleman in the trio, the 7.2-channel TX-NR626, will retail for around £500 from April, and shares much of the features of the TX-NR727, but offers slightly less power.
