On the eve of the release of Batman V Superman, the world’s finest collection of classic DC comic books was unveiled in London, and Home Cinema Choice was invited along for a private viewing. Dubbed The Impossible Collection, it comprises over 1,000 key titles from the Gold and Silver age of DC, and includes not one but two high-quality copies of Action Comics 1 (graded 9.0), the first appearance of Superman, as well as Detective 27, featuring the debut of the Dark Knight.

Good news for quality-obsessed home cinema fans – The Criterion Collection has today announced that it will be releasing Blu-rays in the UK. Previously, the label, which started life in the 1980s and released the first ever audio commentary on its 1984 Laserdisc release of King Kong, has been US/Canada-only, with releases Region A locked.

Lionsgate Home Entertainment has become the latest distributor to announce its initial slate of Ultra HD Blu-ray releases. The studio will launch four titles on March 1 in the US. There's no word yet on UK releases.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (SPHE) has teamed up with Dolby to bring Atmos audio mixes to its Ultra HD Blu-ray releases 'over the coming years', including its initial run that includes The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Salt, Hancock, Chappie, Pineapple Express, and The Smurfs 2.  It has previously released Atmos-encoded titles in the US (including Bram Stoker's Dracula), but none so far in the UK. It's first 3D audio title – the Adam Sandler comedy Pixels – unexpectedly sported an Auro-3D soundtrack in Blighty.

'Ultra HD Premium' TVs arrive

The Ultra HD Alliance (UHDA) has launched a new consumer logo to help buyers know that the screen they're purchasing offers the state-of-the-art in current AV standards. TVs (and content services) carrying the 'Ultra HD Premium' logo are deemed by the UHDA to comply with 'performance metrics' for resolution, High Dynamic Range, peak luminance, black levels and wide colour gamut. These are the 'key characteristics of a robust next-generation experience' says the industry group.
