Since getting into hi-def have you become far less tolerant of standard definition TV? Do you go out of your way to avoid the digital blockiness of low-bit-rate Freeview?
The likelihood is you have and you do, if the latest survey of HDTV owners in America is anything to go by.
According to market research firm SmithGeiger, as many as 43 per cent of US HD TV owners say they’re now dissatisfied with standard definition broadcasts once they get used to HD.
36 per cent even say that they watch shows in hi-def that wouldn’t normally get a look in if they were only in SD.
While the majority of HD TV owners still use DVD, satisfaction with Blu-ray is high, with 84 per cent of BD owners recommending hardware to their friends. ‘There’s a high level of evangelism for Blu-ray,’ says SmithGeiger president Chris Lang.

Freeview isn't that bad

Red button ITV HD, whats the point?
Anonymous - 17 November 2008 - 6:10pmSome SD Freeview is ok, but lots is virtually unwatchable.
BBC HD is fantastic at times, ITV would be but I always miss the transmissions since they are red button only and I am usually tuned to BBC HD.
ITV should wake up, there is advertising revenue to be earned, however if no one is watching because they don't know in advance when there is a transmission.........What's the point of this red button stuff????
FreeView NOT in AMerica
Anonymous - 19 November 2008 - 6:49pmIt may be not be obvious to the writers of this Article, but Freeview is NOT available in America, unless they've upped the xmission strength somewhat. So what exactly does this "paid for by SOny" survey tell us? People hate Toshiba and Lurve Sony? Get real you maggots, go out and get a real story instead of feeding off the crumbs from the Mfrs table.
What are you like...
badtzmaru - 21 November 2008 - 8:36amI think you'll find that the survey was actually commissioned by the Digital Entertainment Group, not sony. And the article doesn't say freeview is available in america.
Personally I now find SD really difficult to watch when the image is complex - particularly on sports.
