BT Vision to offer ITV catch-up service, box gets firmware update to help it cope

Subscribers to BT Vision’s basic Pay TV package will soon be able to view ITV’s on-demand service, alongside VOD programming from the BBC, C4 and others.
BT's V-box  will allow instant access to popular ITV 1, 2, 3 and 4 shows up to 8 days following their transmission. A selection of archive shows will also be made available.

Marc Watson, director of content and business development at BT Consumer, proclaims the addition of the ITV catch-up service makes ‘BT Vision the best of any (VOD) platform in the UK.’

However, the BT PVR's On-demand service hasn't quite lived up to the hype. This week, the telecoms giant has released a major firmware update for the V-box in an effort to improve the performance of its On-Demand technology; the service has been plagued by ‘currently unavailable’ messages when programme selections are made by viewers.

BT Firmware Upgrade Disaster

The firmware 19th Nov 2008 upgrade has turned thousands of BT Vision boxes into bricks. Technically, they've messed up something called DHCP discover/offer, such that boxes can nolonger connect to BT. This is the *end* for BT Vision, 100,000's of boxes will need to be returned, or need to be binned!

Don't be such an idiot!

Don't be such an idiot! There isn't one single reported case of a BTVision box being bricked. Do you take pleasure in trolling?

The software upgrade on the 19th wasn't a firmware upgrade to the STB it was a server upgrade. The boxes haven't been bricked.
