Disney has confirmed that it will be launching a hi-def version of its premium subscription Disney Cinemagic channel on Sky HD+ this December. This takes the number of high-definition channels currently offered on the Sky platform to 29.
The launch arrives in time for Christmas screenings of the CG-animated hits Ratatouille and Tinker Bell. The company has also confirmed that hi-def screenings of The Incredibles and Sleeping Beauty will follow in the New Year (the latter presumably taken from the same master as Disney's recent phenomenal Blu-ray release).
Commenting on the news, Michael Cairns, general manager Disney Cinemagic UK and Ireland, stated, 'We’re delighted to launch our first high definition channel in the UK and Disney Cinemagic’s focus on movies made it the ideal choice for the HD format. This deal with Sky underlines our commitment to using cutting edge technology to help create and distribute outstanding content and the HD format is set to add a new dimension to family’s enjoyment of Disney animated movies'.
