The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe review

Anton van Beek's picture

I’m not the biggest fan of CS Lewis’ 'magical Jesus-lion' saga, but have to concede that this first mega-budget theatrical outing to Narnia is a fun yarn and it’s certainly made for a marvellous Blu-ray release. I can’t find any fault with the disc’s AVC 1080p encode or lossless PCM 5.1 soundtrack; both are lush and detailed, and make for excellent demo material. Copious extras include two commentaries (getting just one on a UK Disney BD is practically unheard of - even when the company had gone as far as to list one on the sleeve), docs, featurettes, a surprisingly complex Blu-ray-exclusive set-top strategy game, and pretty much all of the other bits and pieces that appeared on the old two-disc Special Edition DVD. Given all of the above though, it is a little surprising that the disc only contains the theatrical cut, not the later extended version of the movie.
