In Bruges review

Mark Craven's picture

Its cinematic hopes were dashed by a complete lack of marketing, but this black comedy will pick up a lot of fans on DVD. Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson are superb as two Irish hitmen hiding out in the quaint Belgian town, dealing with guilt, religion, a racist dwarf and an angry mob boss. Kinda like Father Ted, but with guns. The 2.35:1 picture is fair, though a couple of dark scenes lack shadow detail; the DD 5.1 audio doesn’t stretch itself far beyond the front soundstage, but technically is spot-on. Tasty extras include a gag-reel, deleted scenes, three featurettes (including a history of Bruge via a canal trip) and a montage of all the film’s swear words, which is well worth watching.
