Doctor Who: The Trial of a Timelord review

Anton van Beek's picture

Colin Baker’s final season as the Doctor is also the second in the show’s history to link all its stories together in an ongoing arc – in this case the Doctor on trial for ‘meddling’ in time! Unfortunately, the net result is a pretty disastrous collection of stories linked together by tedious courtroom scenes.

However, the monumental failure of the season only makes the extras even more fascinating. Each disc comes complete with commentaries, retrospective Making of... featurettes, continuity trails, deleted scenes, archival footage and more. Pick of the bunch is the fourth disc’s 55min frank and honest examination of Baker’s tenure as the Doctor and his eventual sacking. On top of this, the 1.33:1 image and mono audio for the show itself is up to the usual high standards we've come to expect from the Doctor Who Restoration Team.
So there you have it, a lame set of stories, but an unmissable batch of extras for any Whovian.
