WAZ review

Anton van Beek's picture

Set in New York, but actually filmed in Belfast, WAZ is a step up from the usual transatlantic co-production hodgepodge. Melissa George and Stellan Skarsgard star as the mismatched cops in this hybrid of Se7en and Saw. Refreshingly, the killer isn't kept secret for long, instead it’s the numerous twists and the game of cat and mouse between the cops and killer that ensures it never gets boring. The sickly green and yellow palette ensures that the anamorphic 2.35:1 never looks pretty, but technically you can't fault the transfer. Lively Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 mixes help create the illusion of New York. A commentary, deleted scenes, interviews, trailer and two featurettes complete a respectable DVD package.
